about cake
cake started in 1999 with a single birthday card
hand-drawn by designer amy howard featuring (what
else?) a cupcake. the design got so much attention
that amy started a line of hand-drawn cards and
called the company patsy ann design, named after her
dad’s loving nickname for her mom.
since then, the company has undergone a few design
and style changes, and has finally emerged –
deliciously fully-baked – as
cake. the new venture
specializes in paper goods as well as the parties
they are for, and this is the piece of the cake, so
to speak, that has robin thomas on board as a
partner. armed with a classic design sensibility and
a brain for business, robin is a perfect match for
amy’s focus on aesthetics, creativity and vibe for
each occasion.
these girls have been eating sweets
together for over 20 years, and now, they have four
girls between them. they each have two daughters,
and, following in the tradition of naming things
after loved ones, cake is an acronym of their little
girls’ names – campbell, avery, kate and ellie.
to amy and robin, cake is a sweet slice of life,
representative not only of their darling little
girls, but also of everybody’s loved ones and
celebrations in life. they share a love of all
things simple and fresh, funny and treasured. they
are truly inspired by the celebrations they are a
part of, and are thrilled and honored when people
choose cake’s creations to be a part of their
special occasions. |
